ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Larissa is a metalsmith working out of her private studio in Santa Rosa, California.  Though she was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Larissa grew up mostly in Rochester Hills, Michigan.  She studied metalsmithing under Thomas Madden, and Susan Holt at The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.  She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Crafts with a specialization in metalsmithing in May 2001.

Larissa’s aesthetic is very organic. She derives her designs from the natural world; from such things as flowers and seed pods. In addition to patinas, she has expanded her pursuit of color to semiprecious stones and pearls.  These properties are converging to evolve the aesthetic of Larissa’s wearable objects.

When asked about her philosophy on her craft, Larissa says:

“I believe that creating a tangible, physical dialogue about the world that surrounds us is the responsibility of artists.  Each piece of jewelry or object I make is a sculpture that relates to the human body through utility  or the implication of utility.
I believe that art should have integrity in its craftsmanship, method of fabrication, concept, presentation, and materials used; and that each of these requirements is of equal importance.  Anything short of this is a waste of time for both the artist and the viewer.”

Larissa is a member of The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG). From August 2006 to December 2007 she was also a member and board member of The Metal Arts Guild of San Francisco as the newsletter editor. She has taught art for the San Jose  Museum of Art in San Jose, California, and for the Creative Arts Center in Sunnyvale, California.
